Guide
Clips, safety breaks and buckles.
Small parts make a big difference to how a lanyard is used. Here is what each one is for.
| Fitting | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Trigger clip | A metal clip for everyday attachment to badge holders. |
| Dog clip | A slim, lightweight traditional metal clip. |
| Lobster clip | A heavier metal clip with a distinctive profile. |
| Split ring | Thread keys or compatible items onto the ring. |
| Carabiner hook | A carabiner-style attachment for compatible items. |
| Plastic clip | A non-metal option; check it against your holder. |
| Device loop | A small loop for compatible device attachment points. |
| Integrated badge reel | A retractable reel built into the lanyard, for cards shown to readers often. |
See every option in clips and hooks and split rings and loops.
Safety break or detachable buckle?
They look similar but do different jobs, and one does not replace the other.
Designed to separate when the strap is pulled with sufficient force. Lanyards can have one release point or several. If your organisation specifies a particular arrangement, include it in your request so it can be checked.
Safety breaksLets you remove the lower clip, keys or pass by hand while the strap stays on. A convenience feature, not a safety feature.
Detachable bucklesStrap finishes
Where the two ends of the strap meet, they can be finished with stitching, a metal crimp, a stud or a bead. Only finishes that suit your chosen construction are offered. See strap finishes.
